NASA's Work From Anywhere Program

NASA's big missions demand innovative thinking and concerted effort to make our workforce the best it can be. An important part of that is having the ability to balance work, family and personal commitments to help make the workforce healthier and more productive. This includes cultivating a workplace culture that promotes productivity, fosters innovation, and acknowledges that work is what we do, not where we go.

I want to ensure that NASA continues to provide you with opportunities to look for ways to perform your job better and to initiate new ways of accomplishing our mission, while maintaining high standards of quality and keeping in mind our commitment to IT security. In support of this goal, the Office of Human Capital Management is launching new initiatives that provide flexibility to help you do your work well while also meeting the other obligations of your life.

Work From Anywhere is a program that leverages existing workplace flexibilities and programs to maximize productivity, innovation, and, ultimately, mission success. Our goal is to ensure that all employees are trained, equipped, and enabled to Work From Anywhere -- their office, a lab, an airstrip, the space station, or their dining room table.

The point is that NASA personnel, traditionally among the most resourceful and prepared in the federal government, should be able to use the proper tools to perform their duties in non-traditional settings, benefitting the agency and also leading to increased job satisfaction, potential cost savings, reduced carbon footprint and many other benefits.

Over the next few days, you will receive information from your senior leadership. You can also visit the Work From Anywhere website on the NASA HR Portal: https://hr.nasa.gov/portal/server.pt?open=512&objID=239&PageID=133590&mode=2

Please take time to review this information, and then I encourage you to have a conversation with your supervisor to discuss your situation. These new initiatives demand that you take the responsibility to set up your alternate work stations and obtain the tools you need, such as secure nomadic access tokens, to properly perform your duties.

I’m excited about this program and look forward to hearing about the benefits that I know it will bring to the agency and the NASA family.
